The first American Olympic Champion was 30-year old James Connolly from South Boston, Massachusetts, who won the Triple Jump on the first day of competition at the I. Olympic Games, Athens on 6 April 1896.
482 Americans, including 38 women, have been Olympic Champion prior to WW2 winning a total of 339 Gold Medals and three Gold in the Arts Contests of 1932.
