Brazil's first and only Olympic Champion prior to WW2 was shooter Guilherme Paraense, a 35-year old who won the Rapid-Fire Pistol event on 3 August 1920 at Antwerp. On the previous day, he was a member of the Brazilian team who placed third in the Military Revolver Teams event (50 m), winning Brazil's first ever Olympic medal.
